Music Organisation and Enrichment

Organisation

Our music curriculum is designed to allow all children to access the fundamental skills and have the opportunities to reach their musical potential. It is designed to build up previously learned skills through a range of genres, which if it weren’t for the majority of children would miss out on. The invaluable experiences of holding an instrument and hearing the way it is played to create of accompany music enable children to further their musical engagement and appreciate their own talents

Children a e taught through a consistent cycle of teaching: Listening and Appraising, Theory of Music, Creating and Exploring and Performing.

Our music curriculum is separated into Strands, shown below:

The strands of learning provide access to a wide range of genres throughout their time within the school. For EYFS, pupils within nursery will be exposed to a range of action songs and musical instruments. This is developed within reception as throughout the year units will be taught with a range of focus on musical progression and singing progression.

By using the Charanga scheme we have been able to develop learning as well as encompass the importance of the school performances. Children have a range of opportunities to perform in front of their peers throughout the year, which is turn causes an important growth of public confidence, growing their personalities, education, and employability.

At NET Academies, to be a pupil musician, pupils will have the opportunity to develop skills in the following domains:

Enrichment

By enriching the curriculum we hope to provide extended learning opportunities for our pupils. Giving the pupil the chance to study concepts with greater depth, breadth and complexity, while also helping children to pursue their own areas of interest and strength.

Enrichment happens in the following ways:

  • Partnership with Essex Music Service - providing specialist teachers for whole class units e.g. for those in Year 4 – Guitars and 1:1 or small group peripatetic lessons via the Essex music service.
  • Weekly choir - pupils have the opportunity to perform with the school choir in our after school provision.
  • Performance in the wider community - the choir also has opportunities to perform at events such as Young Voices Concert at the O2, local performances in care homes and playground performances to our local community .
  • Productions- Each year group will also have the opportunity to take part in a performance to parents.
