Music Coverage

Music is power!

Purpose and Aims

    • Pulse – the regular heartbeat of the music; its steady beat.
    • Rhythm – long and short sounds or patterns that happen over the pulse.
    • Pitch – high and low sounds.
    • Tempo – the speed of the music; fast or slow or in-between.

At NET, our music curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

Are engaged and inspired to have a love of music embedded throughout all aspects of learning. Pupils will develop musical talents, aiding confidence, creativity and personal achievement. They will learn to listen and appraise across a wide range of genres, compose and improvise using tuned and untuned instruments, and perform and share to a variety of audiences. We instill a soulful happiness through expression and feeling with complete accessibility for all.

Pupils at NET take part in productions throughout the year, for parents and carers to see. The pupils can also join the school choir where they can attend Young Voices at the O2, which is the largest children's choir concert in the world. We work alongside Essex Music Hub to deliver in class lessons, and private lessons, for pupils who are interested. This includes: piano, guitar, ukuleles, recorders, and many more!

Our schools follows the Charanga scheme of work, offering progressive week by week lessons which meets all the National Curriculum objectives.

By the end of KS2, pupils will be able to understand and apply, in a musical context, the following terms:
