Music Planning and Assessment

Planning is progressive across the year groups, this supports long term memory. Stands, within the curriculum, are revisited to ensure that knowledge is built upon over time. Space retrieval is used to ensure that learning schemas are developed over time. Skill domains are consistent throughout the music curriculum and revisited throughout each key stage. Learning questions have been developed to match knowledge and skills over time. Although each unit has a different genre focus, skills and knowledge within music are built upon progressively.

Carefully chosen units of work have a clear rationale for their positioning within the curriculum programme of study. Vocabulary, skills and knowledge are explicitly planned for in each unit overview.

Pupils are supported in knowing, remembering, understanding and applying their knowledge through Knowledge Organisers and sequenced learning opportunities.

Ongoing skills and knowledge assessment are used within this topic. Formative assessments of pupils knowledge and skills informs future learning opportunities to ensure that pupils are able to successfully produce a final piece. Listening and appraising skills are developed to ensure pupils are evaluating music critically.
